Harvard Football Star Named Finalist for Prestigious Award

Ty Bartrum, a senior safety for Harvard Football, is making waves as a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award. This award is given annually to the top defensive player in Division I FCS college football.

In a wonderful coincidence, he was also recognized as the Bulger Lowe Award recipient for defensive player of the year just a day prior. In his 10 games this season, Bartrum achieved 72 tackles, snagged one interception, broke up three passes, and forced one fumble. His efforts have helped position Harvard’s defense as one of the best in the nation.

Harvard finished the regular season impressively. They ranked No. 7 in rushing defense, 10th in total defense, and 13th in scoring defense. This record is no small feat, showcasing a well-rounded and effective defense.

The Buck Buchanan Award, now in its 31st year, honors the legacy of Junious “Buck” Buchanan. He was a standout defensive lineman at Grambling State and is remembered for his Hall of Fame career. Previous winners include notable players like Dexter Coakley and Jared Allen, while last year’s recipient was Central Arkansas’ David Walker.

This year’s finalists represent all 13 FCS conferences. The winner will be announced at the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Show on January 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.
