Haryana Congress MPs Condemn BJP-led Centre: ‘Handcuffed Deportees’ Incident Viewed as an Insult to India

Haryana Congress MPs are outraged over the recent deportation of 104 Indians from the US, particularly highlighting that 33 of them are from Haryana. They called the handcuffing of these individuals an embarrassment to the nation.

Deepender Hooda, the MP from Rohtak, joined other members of the INDIA bloc in protesting this incident inside Parliament. He emphasized that it is humiliating for Indian citizens to be treated this way after risking so much to seek better opportunities abroad. Many of these young people had sold their properties to travel to the US, only to now face economic hardship and displacement.

Hooda criticized the government for its ineffective response, noting that the Prime Minister needs to engage with US officials to ensure that Indian citizens are treated fairly. He also urged for a legal aid cell to support those affected by deportation.

Hooda previously raised concerns about the rising number of youths traveling abroad without proper visas. He believes that the high unemployment rate in Haryana forces many to seek dangerous alternatives for employment. He cited data showing that over 90,000 Indians were arrested at the US-Mexico border in the past year, attributing this to the government’s failure to provide jobs.

Fellow Congress MP Randeep Surjewala echoed these sentiments, questioning why the government hasn’t spoken up about the treatment of deportees. He highlighted the inhumane conditions faced by those who were deported, raising alarms about over 40 hours of being chained with limited access to facilities.

Kumari Selja, another MP, pointed out that creating job opportunities in India would help prevent such situations in the future. She called for a comprehensive approach to address human trafficking, provide support for deported individuals, and establish clear migration policies to protect Indian citizens abroad.

As the situation develops, the need for better support and opportunities for Indian citizens remains critical.
