New Adena Health Foundation President is Listening to You

Laura Jo Hawk has recently stepped into the role of president at the Adena Health Foundation. She’s eager to hear what matters most to you regarding health in our community.
Hawk believes in the power of relationships. “It’s about building connections and getting the community involved,” she says. “We want our donors and community members to align with the foundation’s goals and feel excited to contribute.”
The Adena Health Foundation is dedicated to improving community health. It supports local organizations, enhances patient care, and offers scholarships to students pursuing healthcare careers. This important work is made possible by the generosity of community members and partner organizations.
Throughout her career, Hawk has been passionate about connecting donors with community needs. She’s raised over $13 million for hospital projects and organized successful fundraising events. “Philanthropy is a vital part of our human experience,” she notes. She emphasizes that local involvement is crucial, and everyone can play a role regardless of the donation size.
Having grown up in Akron, Hawk knows firsthand how essential good healthcare is to a community. Her personal experiences at Akron General Hospital inspired her to work with its foundation, shaping her understanding of the impact quality healthcare can have.
Hawk is focused on community engagement. “We want doers, donors, and door openers,” she explains. She invites anyone interested in volunteering or donating to connect with the foundation. She believes every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. She is also on the lookout for individuals in the community who can help spread the word about the foundation’s mission.
One of Hawk’s goals is to ensure that community members feel valued for their involvement. “We want to celebrate our donors because they enhance the work of our caregivers,” she adds.
Hawk takes over from Robin Berno, who led the foundation for the past five years and will stay on in a part-time role to help guide the transition. “I’m grateful for Robin’s experience as we move forward,” Hawk says.
