On the financial side, the Wizards are below the luxury tax threshold and can accommodate a trade involving Young’s hefty $46 million salary. To make the numbers work, they would likely need to part ways with more than just CJ McCollum, whose contract stands at $30.7 million. This could involve including other players like Malaki Branham.
Kispert is currently in the first year of a four-year, $54 million rookie extension, which complicates things a bit for the Hawks. Acquiring him would tighten Atlanta’s salary cap flexibility. However, it would also rid them of Young’s future financial obligations, creating potential savings.
Though Kispert is reportedly open to joining the Hawks, the trade isn’t a sure thing yet. The teams have about a month to explore other options and agree on draft compensation, which could prove tricky.
Kispert is out for a game against Philadelphia due to hamstring management. This marks his sixth absence in the last seven games, but he wasn’t previously listed as injured. McCollum will also miss his first game of the season due to soreness.
