Hartford Hawks Shine in Camden Meet
This past weekend, the Hartford outdoor track and field team put in a fantastic effort at their second-to-last meet of the season in Williamstown, Massachusetts. With hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Nationals, every athlete pushed themselves to the limit.
Women’s Highlights:
- Tamara Greene, a sophomore from Hartford, took home first place in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.63 seconds.
- Madison DiPasquale, a senior from Wallingford, secured second place in shot put with a throw of 12.37 meters. She also finished fourth in discus with a distance of 40.78 meters.
- Emily Breau, a freshman from Meriden, completed the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.11, landing sixth in her event.
- Destinee Majett, a senior from Brick Township, achieved fifth place in hammer throw, reaching 47.52 meters.
- Katy Kohlun, a freshman also from Meriden, came in eighth in javelin with a throw of 35.60 meters.
Men’s Highlights:
- Chris Hergott, a junior from Hamden, won the long jump, soaring to 7.20 meters.
- Aidan Lybarger, a sophomore from Burlington, placed fourth in discus with a throw of 48.11 meters.
- Aidan Quee, another sophomore from Springfield, finished 16th in the 400-meter sprint with a time of 50.43 seconds.
The Hawks are gearing up for their final chance to qualify for Nationals. They’ll compete at the MIT Final Qualifier on Thursday, May 14th.
Looking Ahead
According to recent statistics, track and field events are seeing a surge in participation and viewer interest, especially among younger athletes. A study by the National Federation of State High School Associations noted a 3% increase in high school track and field participation last year. This trend highlights the growing passion for the sport.
