Officials from the Health Ministry’s High Hospitalization Authority met recently to discuss the ongoing Ebola virus situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. According to Shira Solomon, the Ministry spokesperson, these meetings are aimed at reviewing current health strategies and ensuring readiness in case of an outbreak.
Currently, the risk of Ebola spreading to Israel is assessed as low, with no known cases reported in the country. The Ministry continues to track global developments related to the virus. As of Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) noted 906 suspected cases and 223 suspected deaths in the DRC, while Uganda reported nine confirmed cases, contributing to a total of 134 confirmed cases across both countries.
Even though the threat in Israel remains minimal, health experts recommend that travelers to affected regions take precautions. Dr. Roni Farber, director of the Public Health Division at Femi, reassured travelers that there is no recommendation to avoid flights to Africa, but self-awareness and hygiene should be prioritized. In fact, recent advancements in Ebola vaccines and treatments are helping to manage outbreaks more effectively, leading to reduced mortality rates.
