Healthy Living, a well-loved source for healthy food in Vermont and New York, has made a generous donation of over $13,000 to a nearby food bank. This money will go to the South Burlington Food Shelf, just down the road from their main store on Dorset Street.
How did they raise this money? Through their Round Up for Food Insecurity program, Healthy Living allows customers to round their grocery total up to the nearest dollar at checkout. This small act adds up quickly and provides much-needed support to local families.
Thanks to these efforts, over 600 households have received assistance, helping more than 1,500 individuals weekly. Each family can visit the Food Shelf twice a month to choose the items they need. This flexibility is essential, allowing families to select foods that meet their tastes and preferences.
CEO Eli Lesser-Goldsmith expressed gratitude for the community’s support: “Our guests are amazing. Their generosity helps us tackle food insecurity effectively.” This initiative reflects Healthy Living’s commitment to giving back.
Patrick Leduc, president of the Faith Influenced Leaders Non-profit, which oversees the Food Shelf, echoed these sentiments. “Thanks to Healthy Living, we can help those in need and ensure everyone can feed their families with dignity,” he said.
Healthy Living operates stores in South Burlington and Williston, Vermont, as well as Saratoga Springs, New York. With a focus on local and organic products, they prioritize clean ingredients and support local farmers. Founded in 1986 by Katy Lesser, this independent retailer has grown significantly while maintaining its family-oriented values. Today, they employ around 350 team members across their locations.
