Heart-Pounding Victory: Utes Edge Out Pioneers 4-3 in Ultimate Showdown – University of Utah Athletics

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men’s tennis team celebrated a thrilling 4-3 win against Denver at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes remain undefeated at home with a record of 4-0 and an overall record of 8-4.

Emmett Potter and Charles Frey were standout players. Potter secured the first singles win after a tense tiebreaker, turning the tide for the team. Meanwhile, Frey needed three sets to clinch the final victory for the Utes.

In Doubles: Utah started strong by winning the doubles point. Berk Bugarikj and Max Relic achieved a decisive 6-1 victory in the No. 2 spot against Ryoma Mishiro and Rikuto Yamaguchi. Reid Jarvis and Dante Teramo then sealed the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Theo Coats and Daniel Sancho Arbizu in the No. 1 spot. A match between Potter and Gianluca Citadini versus Rafaello Papajcik and Connor Robb-Wilcox was cut short at 5-2 in favor of the Utes.

In Singles: Denver took the lead by winning three matches on the top courts. However, Potter evened the score with a strong performance at No. 5, earning a 6-3, 7-6 victory against Robb-Wilcox. Teramo quickly followed with another win, also in a tiebreaker, finishing 6-4, 7-6 against Samuel Rovai at No. 4.

The match came down to Frey at No. 6. He faced a tough battle, dropping the first set 4-6. He bounced back to take the second set with 6-4, forcing a third. Frey finished strong, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and clinching the match for Utah.

Looking Ahead: Utah is set to compete at the San Diego Invite from March 7-9.
