Heartbreak on the Court: Ottawa University’s Women’s Volleyball Falls to Evangel, 3-0

Ottawa Volleyball Team Faces Tough Loss Against Evangel

The Ottawa University volleyball team encountered a tough challenge on the road, losing to Evangel University in three sets: 25-22, 25-22, and 25-19.

In Set One, Ottawa started strong thanks to early kills by Bailee Nickel and Hollie Peters. They led 8-6 but found themselves in a tight match. Peters’ third kill tied the set at 17-17. However, Evangel took advantage of late errors from Ottawa, closing out the set with key kills from Bella Wakley and Charlotte Hawkins.

Set Two mirrored the first, with both teams trading points. Ottawa gained a slight lead at 11-10 after another kill from Nickel. But, just like before, Evangel rallied, propelled by Vivianna Sanchez, to end the set on a 5-1 run.

In Set Three, Ottawa kept the pressure on with strong plays from Anja Kukic and Kira Cherry, taking a brief 10-8 lead. Yet, Evangel responded aggressively. Sanchez and Wakley again proved instrumental, securing the match with solid performances down the stretch.

Throughout the match, Ottawa struggled with a hitting percentage of just .103, compared to Evangel’s .195 and 41 kills.

As they look ahead, Ottawa (5-10, 2-3) will face Kansas Wesleyan University on October 10 at 7:00 p.m. in Salina, Kansas. A strong performance will be crucial to bounce back from this setback.

Recent studies show that maintaining a positive mindset after losses in sports can improve future performance. McGill University researchers found that teams with a focus on collective growth tend to rebound more effectively after defeats.

This upcoming game offers Ottawa an opportunity. How they adapt could define their season.
