GEORGETOWN, D.C. – On a lively Wednesday at Capital One Park, the Georgetown University baseball team faced the George Washington Revolutionaries but ended up losing 9-7. This defeat brings the Hoyas’ record to 22-19 overall and 4-5 in conference play, while George Washington improves to 17-22 and 9-9 in the league.
“Charlie Hendrix pitched an excellent game, nearly going six innings. However, we couldn’t give him the support he needed. We had chances to extend our lead, but too many players were left stranded. We missed crucial hits and didn’t execute defensively in the later innings. George Washington took advantage of their opportunities. Now, we need to focus on a tough UConn team coming up,” said Head Coach Edwin Thompson.
Game Highlights:
- Georgetown started strong in the second inning, with Kahn smashing a two-run homer and Solomon following up with a solo shot, putting the Hoyas ahead 3-0.
- In the third inning, Templin’s RBI groundout and another run scored by Gilio increased the lead to 5-0.
- The Revolutionaries struck back in the fourth with a two-run homer, narrowing the score to 5-2.
- By the seventh frame, GW was closing in, scoring due to an error and a sacrifice fly, making the score 5-4.
- Georgetown responded again in the seventh when Templin hit an RBI single, extending the lead to 7-4.
- In a surprising turn, GW rallied in the eighth, scoring five runs thanks to errors and timely hits, clinching the game at 9-7.
Notable moments included Kahn hitting his first collegiate home run, while Solomon added his second of the season.
Looking ahead, the Hoyas will take on the University of Connecticut Huskies in a weekend series from April 24 to April 26, starting Friday at 6 p.m.
