Longwood Falls to Radford in Tough Match
The Longwood Lancers faced off against Radford University amid heavy rain on Thursday. Despite some strong efforts, they lost the match 1-0.
Emma Jones and Sam Fischer were key players, leading the team in shots. Unfortunately, Radford scored the only goal in the first half, and that made all the difference.
Match Highlights:
- Score: Radford 1, Longwood 0
- Longwood shot nine times in the first half but couldn’t find the back of the net.
- Radford’s Lilly Short found the lower left corner of the goal in the 35th minute.
The second half saw a downpour, but the Lancers kept pushing for a goal, taking seven shots. Still, Radford’s defense held strong, denying Longwood every chance.
Head Coach Todd Dyer praised his team, saying, “I’m proud of our group tonight. We kept battling until the end.” He noted the close nature of the rivalry and acknowledged that injuries made things tougher for Longwood. “We adapted and stayed in the fight,” he added.
Looking Ahead:
The Lancers will continue their season on the road against High Point, with the match scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 1.
