MANKATO – On Saturday, Mankato Loyola triumphed over New Ulm Cathedral with a score of 62-27 in a girls basketball crossover game.

Shay Wilfahrt led the Greyhounds with 15 points. Olivia Macho contributed 5 points, while Maddie Gilles scored 4 points. Gilles is now just 19 points away from reaching 1,000 career points.

The game started with Cathedral taking a quick 4-0 lead. However, Loyola’s tough defense soon shifted the momentum. After a few successful baskets from Cathedral, Loyola surged ahead, taking a commanding 39-14 lead by halftime. This scoring run was mostly uninterrupted, with only a few free throws and a mid-range jumper from Wilfahrt breaking Loyola’s rhythm.

Cathedral showed resilience in the second half. Gilles opened with a layup, and Wilfahrt knocked down a 3-pointer, reducing the gap to 41-20. Macho followed up with another 3-pointer, making it 43-26. But Loyola responded strongly, finishing the game with a 19-point scoring run.

After this game, Cathedral’s record stands at 2-15. They will face Lester Prairie at home on Tuesday.
