Dolly reflected on their time together, expressing, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared.” She thanked everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time.

The couple first met when Dolly was just 18 and fresh to Nashville. She recounts their encounter, revealing how Carl genuinely listened to her, a rare quality she appreciated. Their connection blossomed, and they married on May 30, 1966, in a small ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia.

Throughout their marriage, Carl preferred to stay out of the spotlight. He focused on running his asphalt-paving business while Dolly became a country music legend. Although he avoided fame, he had an impact on her music, notably inspiring her famous song, “Jolene.” Dolly explained that the song tells the story of a bank teller who had a crush on Carl, leading to playful banter between the couple.

Despite their long and happy marriage, some people thought Carl didn’t really exist because he stayed so private. Dolly even joked about it, saying, “A lot of people say there’s no Carl Dean, that he’s just somebody I made up.” They lived a unique love story, filled with laughter and mutual respect.

Carl and Dolly did not have children, but he is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie. Their lasting bond and deep affection for each other will be remembered as a beautiful chapter in both their lives.
