Greentree, PA – The Wheeling University Baseball team recently faced Point Park in a challenging four-game series, finishing with a tough 0-4 record over the weekend. Their final two games highlighted both struggles and moments of hope, ultimately ending in narrow losses.
Game One Highlights:
In the first game, the Cardinals fell behind early. Point Park scored two runs in both the first and second innings, taking a 4-0 lead. Wheeling had a chance to respond in the second inning, loading the bases with runners on second and third. But despite singles from Nicolas Ancelet and Chris Sauer, they couldn’t bring anyone home.
Cardinal pitcher Sebastian Khan settled down after the shaky start. He delivered four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits during that time. Unfortunately, Wheeling’s offense struggled to make a comeback, finishing the game with only two hits. Khan completed the game with a strong performance overall, going seven innings and striking out four batters.
Game Two Breakdown:
The second game saw more action from the Cardinals. Jaden Wilcox started strong and Chris Sauer quickly got the team on the board, hitting his first home run of the season. Wheeling kept the momentum going, extending their lead to 4-0 with solid hitting in the third and fourth innings.
However, disaster struck in the bottom of the fourth when Point Park erupted for six runs. Wilcox’s outing ended there, and while the Cardinal bullpen worked hard to keep the game close, they couldn’t pull ahead and lost 6-5. Chris Sauer had a notable day, hitting 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored.
Despite the tough losses, the team’s fighting spirit stood out. Every player brought something to the game, and the energy on the field was evident. Looking ahead, the Cardinals are gearing up to face Fairmont State in their next matchup. The need for consistent batting and strong pitching remains a focal point for improvement.
