In an exciting game on February 21, the Penticton Vees pulled off a dramatic comeback against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, winning 4-3 in overtime. Caton Ryan stole the show with a hat trick, scoring the winning goal in extra time.
The Vees started poorly, falling behind 3-0 by the end of the second period. Salmon Arm’s goals came from Cole Cooksey, Maddux Martin, and Roenick Jodoin, all scored within just 59 seconds of each other in the first period. The Silverbacks’ goalie, Andrew Ballantyne, made an impressive 45 saves to keep his team in the lead.
The third period marked a turning point for Penticton. Ryan finally found the net at 8:16, scoring his eighth goal of the season. Louie Wehmann quickly followed, narrowing the score to 3-2 four minutes later.
With time running out and their goalie pulled, Ryan’s determination shone through. He scored again with a skillful wrist shot through a crowd, tying the game just before overtime.
Vees assistant coach Matthew Vanden Berg praised Ryan’s performance, saying, “Cato wants to win so badly, and he has the talent to back it up. He showed his dominance when it mattered most.”
In overtime, Ryan completed his hat trick to seal the victory. Will Ingemann stepped in for starting goalie Ethan Buenaventura and made 12 saves, contributing to the win.
The Vees next face the West Kelowna Warriors on February 22, while the Silverbacks will host the Cranbrook Bucks later that evening.
