NEWARK, DE. – The High Point University Panthers faced off against the University of Delaware Blue Hens for the first time in nearly ten years. Unfortunately, after an early lead, the Panthers lost 11-6.

High Point got off to a strong start, scoring the first goal just two minutes into the game. Tommy Meehan’s shot was deflected by the Delaware goalie, but Isiah Moran-Weekes was quick to scoop up the ground ball and score.
However, High Point struggled to find the net for the next 20 minutes. Delaware capitalized on this, scoring three times in the first quarter and adding another goal early in the second to lead 4-2.
By halftime, the Blue Hens had stretched their lead to 7-2 with three additional goals.
The Panthers regrouped in the third quarter and put up a fight, outscoring Delaware 3-1. Collin Rovere set up Ryan Hynes for the first goal of the quarter. Then, Rovere scored himself off a pass from Carson Robins. Justin Wixted added another goal shortly after, bringing High Point within three at 8-5 by the end of the third.
In the final quarter, however, High Point managed only one more goal, again from Rovere. Despite their efforts, they fell short with an 11-6 defeat.
In statistics, High Point recorded a total of 32 shots, with 20 on goal. Delaware had 36 shots, landing 26 on target. The Panthers had a faceoff win rate of 45%, while Delaware was more successful at 55%. High Point’s clearing game was slightly better, completing 17 of 20 attempts compared to Delaware’s 15 out of 19.
Wixted and Rovere each scored twice, and Zack Overend made 15 saves, conceding 11 goals for a .577 save percentage.
Next up, High Point will play Jacksonville University on March 8 in Savannah, Georgia, with the game starting at 2:00 p.m.
