Two More Bodies Found in Niger Floods, Death Toll Reaches 153
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) is in shock following tragic events in Niger and Kano states. Recent severe flooding in Niger has taken many lives, destroyed homes, and disrupted the transportation of goods, especially food, to the South-West.
Additionally, a road accident in Kano involved athletes and journalists returning from a sports festival. The ACF expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and offered prayers for the survivors. “This is a time to rebuild and find strength,” said Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the Forum’s National Publicity Secretary.
The Niger State Government recently reported the recovery of two bodies under a bridge, raising the total death toll to 153. Abubakar Usman, the Secretary to the State Government, confirmed that recovery efforts are ongoing, with local authorities and volunteers working tirelessly to assist those affected.
Usman urged everyone to avoid spreading unverified information. “This adds to the pain and confusion during such a difficult time,” he said. Trust in the government’s response and cooperation with local officials is essential for healing and recovery.
Disasters like these highlight the importance of community support. A recent survey found that nearly 70% of people feel a stronger bond with their neighbors during crises. It reminds us that coming together can help us navigate tough times and rebuild lives after tragedy.
Focusing on recovery and support is crucial as communities face the aftermath of these disasters.
