Lorraine Jones has retired after an impressive 45 years at Lompoc Valley Medical Center. Starting at just 18, she began as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Comprehensive Care Center (CCC), where she later became the administrator for the past six years.
Born in Lompoc, Lorraine grew up in the area and dedicated her entire career to helping others. Over the years, she has taken on many roles, including nursing assistant, physical therapy receptionist, and medical-surgical registered nurse, among others. Her journey is a testament to her hard work and passion for healthcare.
Recently, Lorraine’s colleagues threw a heartfelt farewell party at the CCC. The room was filled with balloons and photos showcasing her journey. Friends, family, and co-workers shared stories, laughter, and even a few tears to honor her contributions.
During her career, Lorraine gained respect not just for her skills but also for her leadership. Yvette Cope, CEO of LVMC, praised Lorraine’s ability to handle challenges and make decisions that positively impacted the team. “You will always be part of the LVMC family,” she told Lorraine.
Inspired by her own mother’s work as a CNA, Lorraine always aspired to be a nurse. Balancing work and family, she spent nine years taking night classes before finally entering a nursing program. Her dedication to her profession and community has left a lasting legacy.
Kirsten Chipps, the CCC director of nursing, praised Lorraine as an exceptional leader, emphasizing that her 45 years are not just a career but a legacy. She noted how Lorraine has nurtured relationships and inspired others, creating a positive culture within the organization.
Reflecting on her journey, Lorraine expressed gratitude for her experiences and the people she’s met along the way. Surrounded by loved ones at her farewell, she shared, “I have been especially blessed to have had a wonderful family – a wonderful CCC family and LVMC family.” She will miss them dearly, but her impact will continue to resonate in the community she has lovingly served for so many years.
