Catholic Charities Emergency Services Food Shelf is hosting its annual Spice Drive, encouraging donations to enhance holiday meals. They’re specifically looking for spices like allspice, cumin, coriander, cardamom, turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and vanilla.
You can drop off unopened, new dried herbs and spices at the St. Cloud Financial Credit Union located at 3030 1st Street South, St. Cloud. They accept donations during business hours: Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon. This event is co-sponsored by the credit union, which is a big help.
Spices can transform simple meals and help families maintain cherished cooking traditions. Along with herbs and spices, the food shelf also needs cupboard essentials and shelf-stable proteins. Cash donations are also very beneficial as they allow the food shelf to purchase more food through partnerships with local grocery distributors.
According to a recent survey by Feeding America, nearly 34 million people in the U.S. faced food insecurity in 2021. Donations like these can make a real difference. Many community members are stepping up to help, reflecting a growing trend on social media where acts of kindness and community support are being celebrated with hashtags like #FoodForFamilies.
If you or someone you know needs food assistance, you can find more information here.
This holiday season, let’s come together to support each other. Every donation counts.
