Passengers on the Delhi-bound Vande Bharat Express faced an unexpected shower when water began leaking from the train’s ceiling. A video showed water pouring from a vent, soaking passengers and their belongings.

Journalist Piyush Rai shared the incident on X, joking about the surprise “waterfall” service that caught everyone off-guard.

Another passenger shared their frustration, highlighting damp seats and an uncomfortable journey. They mentioned that the air conditioning wasn’t working and called for a full ticket refund, claiming staff had been unhelpful. “Extremely uncomfortable journey despite premium fare. Multiple complaints lodged but no action taken,” they tweeted, sharing their PNR number for reference.

In response, Railway Seva explained that the issue stemmed from condensation water collecting under the cooling unit’s drip tray. They further clarified that blocked drain holes were the culprit, which caused water to flow into the passenger area during braking.

To ensure better service, they had cleaned the affected drip trays and were checking all roof-mounted packaging units.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first instance of such an issue. A similar leak was reported in 2024, prompting the Northern Railway’s response, which attributed the problem to a temporary glitch.

This ongoing challenge raises questions about maintenance and passenger comfort on India’s modern trains. According to a recent survey by the Indian Railways, customer satisfaction regarding comfort has dipped by 15% in the last year. Many passengers have taken to social media to share their experiences, highlighting a need for improvements in both service and infrastructure.
