The search is on for 20-year-old Sudiksha Konanki, a University of Pittsburgh student who went missing during a spring break trip in the Dominican Republic. She was last seen early Thursday morning while walking on the beach at Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana.
According to her missing person posters, Sudiksha is 5 feet 3 inches tall, has black hair, and brown eyes. At the time she disappeared, she was wearing a brown bikini and various accessories, including big round earrings, a metal anklet on her right leg, and colorful bracelets on both wrists.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia became aware of Sudiksha’s disappearance on Thursday evening. They immediately coordinated with federal agencies and local authorities in the Dominican Republic to assist in the search.
Sudiksha is one of six female University of Pittsburgh students who traveled to Punta Cana. She is a Loudoun County resident and also a citizen of India. The Embassy of India is actively involved in the investigation, collaborating with the U.S. State Department and local law enforcement to locate her.
The university is in contact with Sudiksha’s family and is providing support during this difficult time. A statement from the school expressed a commitment to helping in the search for her.
On Saturday, authorities in the Dominican Republic reported that they were searching the coastal area of Bávaro. Teams from various agencies, including local firefighters and police, have been involved in the effort. Drones and helicopters from the Dominican Armed Forces have also been deployed to aid in the search.
Despite their efforts, the search has so far been unsuccessful. Officials have stated that they will continue the search until they find any leads on Sudiksha’s whereabouts.
