Around 10 PM, the young woman encountered the man on the 3200 block of Powellton Avenue. Fortunately, a couple of residents, including a Drexel student named Nathan Piccolo, heard her screams for help.

“I just heard a girl yelling, ‘help, help!’ repeatedly,” Piccolo recalled. Without realizing the man had a knife, Piccolo and his roommate sprang into action and began chasing the suspect as he ran away. The woman and her dog were unharmed after a struggle with the man, who eventually fled the scene.

Witnesses described the suspect’s outfit, noting his orange sneakers, large-brimmed hat, and a Drexel medical school sweatshirt, making him easily recognizable. Despite their efforts, the man remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Community reactions have been strong. Many neighbors expressed relief that they could act quickly to support the victim. Piccolo mentioned the encouraging response from those living nearby, highlighting a sense of camaraderie in the face of danger.
