Heroic Woman Fends Off Knife-Wielding Attacker in Dog Theft Attempt Near Drexel University

Philadelphia police are currently searching for a man involved in a frightening incident near Drexel University. Recently, a woman walking her dog was approached by the suspect, who threatened her with a knife in an attempt to steal her pet.

Around 10 PM, the young woman encountered the man on the 3200 block of Powellton Avenue. Fortunately, a couple of residents, including a Drexel student named Nathan Piccolo, heard her screams for help.

“I just heard a girl yelling, ‘help, help!’ repeatedly,” Piccolo recalled. Without realizing the man had a knife, Piccolo and his roommate sprang into action and began chasing the suspect as he ran away. The woman and her dog were unharmed after a struggle with the man, who eventually fled the scene.

Witnesses described the suspect’s outfit, noting his orange sneakers, large-brimmed hat, and a Drexel medical school sweatshirt, making him easily recognizable. Despite their efforts, the man remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
