US-based Hospital for Special Care (HFSC) is continuing its partnership with Altera Digital Health, renewing its contract for the Sunrise electronic health record (EHR) platform until 2032. This move includes an upgrade to Sunrise 25.1, which promises to improve the hospital’s financial and clinical operations.
HFSC, which is on the larger side among long-term acute care hospitals in the US, serves communities in New Britain, Hartford, and Hebron. The facility has been using the Sunrise platform for over a decade, specially designed for midsize hospitals and healthcare systems.
The upcoming upgrade will feature around 700 updates and new tools. Some of these enhancements include centralized billing, simplified tracking for denials and appeals, and automation for provider-level adjustments to boost financial performance. The platform also provides real-time insights and automates administrative tasks, allowing healthcare providers to focus more on patient care.
Stan Jankowski, HFSC’s Chief Information Officer, expressed confidence in Altera, noting their commitment to transparency and support throughout the years. He emphasized that this upgrade is not just a tech decision; it’s a strategic move to enhance patient care and ensure long-term stability.
Notably, HFSC will be the first to implement the Sunrise Health Record, which addresses the challenges of manual faxing. This system will integrate faxing smoothly within its health information management processes. It will allow for automatic inbound fax routing and easy outbound faxing, enhancing communication and compliance.
According to a recent survey by the American Hospital Association, nearly 80% of hospitals are upgrading their EHR systems to stay current with technological advancements.
