In 2004, Hideo Kojima introduced us to the gripping Cold War narrative of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This game followed Big Boss, the genetic predecessor to Solid Snake. Now, Konami is set to release Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of this iconic title. Interestingly, Kojima has stated he has no intention of playing the new version.
In a recent chat with Ssense, Kojima was asked about the remake. He chuckled and simply said, “No, I won’t.” His departure from Konami in 2015 still sparks curiosity, as he has never shared much about the reasons behind it.
Last year, Noriaki Okamura, a producer for Metal Gear Solid Delta, expressed his respect for Kojima and his hope to collaborate with him again in the future. For now, Kojima’s upcoming project, Physint, seems to be the closest we’ll get to a game with the same spirit as Metal Gear Solid.
On the remake’s side, Konami has revealed some exciting features. Metal Gear Solid Delta will include the classic secret theater and a new online mode called Fox Hunt. They also teased a fresh rendition of the game’s signature song and have shown off an updated opening sequence. Despite these developments, Okamura voiced uncertainty about remaking the original Metal Gear Solid game.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to launch on August 28 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. As anticipation builds, many fans are eager to see how this remake will honor the legacy of the original while introducing fresh elements.
