Exciting Start for CU Track and Field at Potts Invitational

The University of Colorado’s track and field team kicked off the Potts Invitational on Friday, held at the Ford Practice Facility. This event is a great opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills and compete against strong rivals.

On the first day, three Buffaloes took to the field: Amanda Opp and Lucas Williams in the weight throw, and Alaina Fantaski in the shot put. Williams stood out, leading the collegiate field with an impressive throw of 19.45 meters. This remarkable performance placed him third on Colorado’s all-time list for weight throw.

Opp also had a strong showing, achieving a season-best throw of 16.69 meters. This consistency demonstrates her progress as the season advances. Fantaski made her collegiate debut, recording a throw of 7.42 meters, which is a promising start for her career.

Overall, the competition saw four facility records broken:

  • Men’s High Jump: Ndayiragije Shukurani (Colorado State) cleared 2.18m, breaking the previous record of 2.12m set in January 2020.
  • Men’s Pole Vault: Taylor Waters (Colorado State) achieved 5.25m, surpassing the prior record of 5.18m.
  • Men’s Weight Throw: Daniel Reynolds (Wyoming) hit 24.79m, raising the bar from his previous record.
  • Men’s Shot Put: Cam Burkett (Wyoming) threw 19.05m, breaking the previous record of 18.51m.
