The Teutopolis Board of Education met on Monday for their regular session. Here are the main points from the meeting:
- The Board approved the Treasurer’s Reports and the payment of bills.
- They also accepted the minutes from the December 16 meeting, OK’d an FFA field trip, and updated the school calendar for 2024-25 due to two snow days.
- A significant focus was on a new initiative called Vision 2030. This project, developed by the Illinois Association of School Boards, aims to create a better learning environment for students. The idea is that when students and educators feel safe and connected, everyone benefits.
Vision 2030 sets out to:
- Improve K-12 education with future-ready learning and shared goals.
- Help school districts work together to find solutions for their communities.
- Support decisions about education funding and curriculum at the local level.
The Board also discussed the need for better facilities. As the school population grows, updating classrooms and other areas is essential for improving the learning experience. They looked at potential improvements for the Junior High and Grade School, with plans for future discussions at both the Board level and among staff.
Furthermore, there will be renovations on the THS Cafeteria, originally built in 1972. Plans for updating entrances at both THS and TJHS are also in the works, with bidding expected later this spring.
Reports from school principals were shared, providing updates about activities and athletics. The Superintendent highlighted that the end-of-year calendar is being finalized. The Illinois 5Essentials survey will run from February 28 to March 31, and plans are being made for a School Board Election in April 2025.
The Board talked about an After-School Program that has been communicated to parents recently. They also discussed ways to enhance their services for the community, students, and staff in 2025, based on recent self-assessment results.
In personnel matters, the Board accepted resignations from two coaches and approved new hires for various positions, pending background checks and necessary qualifications.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for February 10, 2025, at 6 PM.
