Highway 1 Closure: Essential Avalanche Control Between Golden, Revelstoke, and Sicamous

Highway 1 will experience closures this Saturday due to avalanche control work. The affected areas include stretches between Golden, Revelstoke, and Sicamous.

The first closure starts from Griffin Lake Avalanche Gate to Clanwilliam Bridge, covering about 15.4 kilometers. This closure began last night, and unfortunately, there is no detour available. It’s expected to reopen around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Next, between Malakwa Loop Road and Highway 23 East, a 51.5-kilometer section will close at 3 p.m. on Saturday. This may last until early Sunday morning. However, passenger vehicles can take the Frontage Road as an alternative route.

Finally, the highway section from Golden to Revelstoke, which is about 144.2 kilometers long, will close at 4 p.m. on Saturday. No detours will be available for this stretch. Eastbound commercial vehicles will be held in Malakwa until the closure is lifted, but passenger vehicles can still use the Frontage Road.
