The Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni recently docked in Fremantle, Australia, marking an exciting chapter in the Tri-Service All-Women Circumnavigation Expedition, named “Samudra Pradakshina.” Launched on September 11 from Mumbai, this expedition showcases the strength and unity of women in the Indian armed forces.
Kayari Biswas, the Indian Consul General in Western Australia, and Captain Rohit Raymond, a Defence Adviser, welcomed the crew. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the expedition as not just a journey, but a powerful testament to female empowerment and military diplomacy.
The Triveni, a 50-foot yacht built in India, is taking a challenging route that includes 26,000 nautical miles across major oceans. The crew faces mother nature’s toughest challenges, navigating through treacherous waters. This expedition is also a chance to highlight women’s leadership, showing that their resilience knows no boundaries.
While in Fremantle, the crew will perform various tasks like safety checks and engage with the local sailing community and the Indian diaspora. They plan to share insights through a lecture on “Women in Ocean Voyages.” Their next stop is New Zealand on November 8, aiming to complete the voyage within nine months.
The expedition serves as an inspiration, reflecting the courage and skill of Indian women officers in the military. Through teamwork and determination, they aim to break barriers and redefine the narrative of women in leadership roles.
Recent statistics show a growing interest in women-led initiatives, with a 20% increase in female participation in maritime careers over the past decade. This underscores the significance of efforts like “Samudra Pradakshina” in encouraging women to seize leadership opportunities.

The IASV Triveni is not just a yacht; it’s a symbol of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) and a powerful demonstration that women can persevere against any odds.
