Historic Launch: PM Modi Introduces Rs 100 Coin Featuring Bharat Mata to Celebrate 100 Years of RSS

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently marked a significant occasion in Indian history by unveiling a special ₹100 coin and a commemorative postage stamp, celebrating 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). This coin features the national emblem on one side, and, for the first time since India’s independence, the image of Bharat Mata depicted in Varad Mudra, alongside a lion, with swayamsevaks offering their salute on the other side. This moment is not just a major milestone in numismatics but also a deep cultural statement.

During the event at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, Modi emphasized that the coin includes the RSS motto: “Rashtraya Swaha, Idam Rashtraya, Idam Na Mama.” He viewed this occasion as sacred, aligning it with Vijayadashami, a day celebrating the triumph of good over evil in Indian culture.

In his address, Modi praised the RSS’s journey, comparing it to a mighty river nurturing countless lives across the nation. He noted the significance of the timing, linking the founding of the RSS to Vijayadashami, which symbolizes victory and righteousness. He also paid tribute to Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the founder of the RSS, for establishing a disciplined, service-oriented movement.

Founded in 1925 by Hedgewar, the RSS is now one of the largest volunteer organizations globally, focused on promoting discipline and national service. Modi highlighted key contributions throughout its history, such as:

• Aiding refugees during the Partition in 1947.
• Supporting armed forces during the 1962 India-China conflict.
• Providing relief during various national crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

The concept of “Nation First” is central to the RSS, according to Modi. Despite facing challenges, the organization continues to focus on unity and service. He mentioned five key resolutions the RSS embraces moving forward, addressing issues from self-awareness to environmental consciousness. This progressive outlook is intended to steer India towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
