To celebrate 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a special commemorative postage stamp and a ₹100 coin on October 1, 2025. This marks a significant moment in recognizing the RSS’s contributions to India. PM Modi described the RSS as a representation of “timeless national consciousness” and emphasized its role in the nation’s roadmap to development by 2047.
The ₹100 coin features an image of ‘Bharat Mata’ in a gesture known as ‘Varad Mudra’, symbolizing blessings, alongside the national emblem on one side. This coin is notable because it’s likely the first appearance of Bharat Mata on Indian currency. The accompanying motto, “Rashtraya Swaha, Idam Rashtraya, Idam Na Mama,” reflects the organization’s philosophy.
During the ceremony at Delhi’s Ambedkar International Centre, PM Modi highlighted the RSS’s history. He noted that it was founded on Vijayadashami, not as something entirely new, but as a continuation of India’s ancient traditions. He praised the commitment of RSS founder Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and the organization’s significant role in India’s freedom struggle. Many RSS members faced jail time for their dedication to the nation’s independence, with the group offering protection and support to freedom fighters.
Moreover, PM Modi addressed historical challenges the RSS faced, including unfounded accusations against its leaders, emphasizing that the organization has always remained resilient and connected to society. He applauded the swayamsevaks for their role as first responders in times of crisis, reinforcing their commitment to national service.
The Prime Minister compared the RSS to a nurturing river, supporting diverse aspects of society, from education to social welfare. He mentioned the various affiliated organizations, such as Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and Ekal Vidyalayas, which work tirelessly in remote areas to uphold the values and traditions of tribal communities.
Looking ahead, PM Modi acknowledged the new challenges facing India, such as external dependencies and social divisions. He mentioned the RSS’s five-point plan, known as the Panch Parivartan, aimed at building a stronger nation. This roadmap includes fostering self-awareness, promoting social harmony, instilling cultural values, and protecting the environment.
As the RSS steps into its next century, the Prime Minister reaffirmed its vital role in realizing a developed India by 2047. The centenary celebration coincides with Vijayadashami and Gandhi Jayanti, marking a union of historical significance and future aspirations. RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat is set to deliver a keynote address during the celebrations, further highlighting the organization’s enduring legacy.
