SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Nanooks pulled off a great win against the No. 20-ranked Augustana Vikings on February 21. This victory improves their season record to 11-12-6, while Augustana falls to 17-10-4.
How it Happened
The game kicked off with the Nanooks taking an early lead. William Lawson-Body scored the first goal just over seven minutes into the first period while the team was on a power play. Braden Birnie set it up beautifully, sending the puck toward the net. It bounced off and landed perfectly for Lawson-Body to finish the play. Matt Koethe assisted on this goal.
Augustana responded quickly, leveling the score with Luke Mobley’s goal less than seven minutes later. The score stayed tied at 1-1 until the second period when Carson Reed scored his first-ever goal. Reed drove into the zone and fired a shot aiming for Lawson-Body but it redirected into the net instead. Adam Cardona assisted, making it the winning goal.
The end of the second period was chaotic, with 11 penalties issued that forced a long stoppage. When the game resumed, Augustana really ramped up their offense, outshooting the Nanooks 11 to 5 in the third period. However, goalie Lassi Lehti made stellar saves, keeping the Vikings from scoring and securing the tightly contested win.
