Historic Win: David Attenborough, 99, Becomes Oldest Daytime Emmy Winner as ‘General Hospital’ Claims Top Honors!

PASADENA, Calif. — The Daytime Emmys celebrated its 52nd year on Friday, with some exciting wins. Paul Telfer from “Days of Our Lives” took home the award for lead actor, while Nancy Lee Grahn from “General Hospital” won lead actress. ABC’s “General Hospital” stood out, bringing home six awards, including best drama series.

A highlight of the night was Sir David Attenborough, who, at 99, became the oldest Daytime Emmy winner, breaking Dick Van Dyke’s record. Attenborough received the award for his role as host of Netflix’s “Secret Lives of Orangutans.” His impressive career spans eight decades.

Telfer, who has played Xander Kiriakis since 2015, honored his late mother in his acceptance speech, sharing that her love for soap operas and villains inspired him.

Grahn celebrated her third Emmy win, proudly displaying a clutch with the phrase “Democracy dies in silence.” Known for her activism, she emphasized the importance of standing up for what is right in today’s world.

Other notable winners included Jonathan Jackson, winning for supporting actor by reprising his role as Lucky Spencer, which he has played on and off since 1993. Susan Walters from “The Young and the Restless” also won a supporting award, marking her first nomination.

Alley Mills received recognition as guest performer for her role on “General Hospital,” while Lisa Yamada of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” at just 23, won in the emerging talent category. Yamada expressed her emotional gratitude, reflecting on her journey to stardom.

Kardea Brown, recognized as the culinary host for “Delicious Miss Brown,” shared a heartfelt moment as she celebrated her win, thanking her roots and her faith.

Deborah Norville was honored with a career achievement award. She recently left “Inside Edition” after three decades as anchor.

The night served as a reminder of the hard work and passion behind daytime television, with winners showing genuine appreciation for their journeys.
