Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) recently held its HKBU Engagement Luncheon at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Professor Alexander Wai, the university’s President, emphasized that a sustainable future is a key goal. HKBU’s programs align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to address global challenges through education.
Sustainability was a core theme of the luncheon, with about 80% of decorations made from eco-friendly materials. The event also showcased HKBU’s dedication to sustainability, as reflected in its rise in global rankings. For instance, in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, HKBU improved its position, now ranking 69th globally and excelling in providing quality education.
Moreover, HKBU climbed from 71st to 53rd in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, marking its best ranking since 2016. As it moves forward, the university plans to deepen collaboration with industries to enhance its educational offerings and research efforts.
This focus on sustainability and innovation isn’t just about local developments. It ties into wider global trends. A recent survey found that 72% of students prefer institutions committed to environmental goals. This indicates a significant desire for education that not only imparts knowledge but also prepares students to face future challenges.
