Fairfax, VA – The recent Patriot Last Chance Open at George Mason University showcased some intense wrestling. Hofstra’s Zach Reilley and Chase Hontz both finished fourth, while Gauge Shipp secured fifth place.
Reilley put in a strong performance, winning his quarterfinal match against Yannis Charles with a score of 7-3. Hontz also triumphed, besting George Mason’s Thomas Strofka 9-4. However, both faced tougher competition in their semifinal and third-place bouts, ultimately settling for fourth.
Shipp’s journey looked challenging after a quarterfinal defeat against Dillon Arrick. Nevertheless, he fought his way back through the consolation rounds, achieving a tech fall and later a decision, which propelled him to the fifth-place match. There, he earned a win by fall over Ejiro Montoya from Franklin & Marshall.
This competition marked the last event for Hofstra before the upcoming EIWA Championships on March 6-7 at American University.
