At Camp Humphreys in South Korea, the Warrior Food Pantry has made a significant impact since it started in 2022. Originally a small storage space in the Warrior Chapel, it has expanded to serve over 3,700 individuals, including more than 880 families. This pantry is dedicated to providing essential non-perishable food, diapers, and hygiene products at no cost to military families.
Lindsey Geraci, a prevention lead in the Warrior Resilience and Prevention Directorate, emphasizes the pantry’s mission: “We aim to fight food insecurity by offering accessible and nutritious food with compassion and support.” Especially during the holiday season, the pantry collaborates with local units to ensure that no soldier goes without food.
The Camp Humphreys commissary is a valuable partner, offering pre-made bags of food for donation. This community effort highlights the importance of teamwork in combating hunger among service members. “Together, we empower those who protect our nation,” Geraci adds.
The pantry is situated at 1009 Talon St and welcomes donations such as canned goods, dry goods, and hygiene items. It operates from 10 AM to 2 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and from 12 PM to 3 PM on Saturdays for drop-offs only.
Interestingly, food insecurity among military families has reached alarming levels. Recent studies indicate that nearly 25% of military families experience food shortages at some point. This statistic highlights the growing need for resources like the Warrior Food Pantry. By stepping up, communities can make a real difference in the lives of those who serve.
In the spirit of giving, many are sharing their experiences on social media, encouraging others to support local food banks. This creates a ripple effect, as more people become aware of the struggle faced by military families.
