A celebration of life for Don Dickmeyer will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, located at 17007 Q St. Don, who passed away on November 1 at age 80, dedicated 45 years to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) before retiring in 2017.
Throughout his career, Don made significant contributions as an architect. He began as a design drafter and progressed to project manager, overseeing various crucial projects. His work included the UNMC ice rink, Parking Lot 50, and numerous sidewalk improvements.
In 2013, Don participated in a fundraising campaign for the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, honoring his late wife, Pat, who tragically passed away from colon cancer. He reflected on how much he valued his time at UNMC, especially the friendships he built with colleagues in facilities management. Coaching youth sports was another passion. He played a considerable role in developing the Millard Athletic Association baseball program, impacting many young athletes in his community.
Don is survived by his daughter Cheri Reddick; sons Mike (Heidi) Dickmeyer and Jerry Dickmeyer; and his grandchildren, Lauren and Olivia Reddick, Michael, Kenzie, Kaitlyn, Haley, and Zach Dickmeyer. He also leaves behind siblings Ron (Carol) Dickmeyer, Steve (Jo) Dickmeyer, and Vicky Shurtleff. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, and his sister, Sharon Graver.
