SRINAGAR: The Indian Embassy in the United States is planning an exhibition on Capitol Hill to spotlight the human cost of terrorism. This event will particularly remember the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
Entitled “The Human Cost of Terrorism,” this exhibition coincides with the first anniversary of the attack. It will take place in a public space near Capitol Hill and will showcase visual stories and documented accounts of terror victims. The Pahalgam attack shone a harsh light on civilian threats in India. The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the violence. The Indian government aims to use this exhibition to stress its view on terrorism and draw global attention to the issue.
The display will feature references to significant past attacks, like those in Mumbai and Pulwama, to emphasize the worldwide impact of terrorism. The Pahalgam incident heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading India to implement various diplomatic measures, including halting some bilateral interactions and altering trade policies.
In response to the attack, India executed ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and areas controlled by Pakistan. The situation escalated, resulting in cross-border skirmishes. However, hostilities ceased on May 10 after a temporary ceasefire was reached.
Following these developments, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated in Parliament that three terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack had been killed in operations in Srinagar. These individuals were identified as key operatives of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
This exhibition is part of India’s broader strategy to exhibit its zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and rally global support against it. Similar exhibitions have previously been held at places like the United Nations to illustrate the widespread effects of terrorism through survivor stories and curated materials.
With rising concerns about terrorism across many countries, it’s crucial that communities recognize the shared impact of these events. A recent survey showed that over 70% of people in various countries see cross-border terrorism as a significant threat to global security. Maintaining awareness can strengthen collective action against such challenges.
This exhibition reflects the efforts to foster dialogue and build consensus on a critical issue, hoping to resonate with those who value peace and security worldwide.
