Hooten Shines Bright: Captures Second Team All-America Honors in Final Season – University of Minnesota Athletics

FORT WORTH, Texas — Mya Hooten, a standout gymnast in her fifth and final year at Minnesota, wrapped up her college journey at the 2025 NCAA Gymnastics Championships. She earned a score of 9.8875 on the floor, securing a tie for fifth place among her competitors in the first session. This performance earned her a spot on the NCAA Championships Second Team All-America list, marking her impressive 13th All-America recognition.

Hooten competed alongside the No. 7 Missouri team, which scored 197.300, making history by advancing to their first national championship. Not to be overshadowed, No. 2 Oklahoma also made it to the finals with a score of 197.550. The event’s championship round is set for Saturday, April 19, at 2 p.m. on ABC.

In the later session, No. 4 Utah and No. 5 UCLA advanced to the finals. Unfortunately, No. 1 LSU and No. 8 Michigan State saw their seasons end.

As the only Golden Gopher to qualify for the nationals individually, Hooten capped off a remarkable season. In 2025 alone, she clinched 16 event titles, dominating her floor routine in 10 out of 15 meets, and also claimed four titles on vault and two on bars.

Hooten leaves Minnesota as a true champion, holding a total of 13 All-America honors, including eight from the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association and five from the NCAA Championships. She is not only a two-time First Team NCAA Championships All-American on floor but also boasts a history of performance that includes being named a Big Ten Champion six times and receiving First Team All-Big Ten honors four times.

What sets Hooten apart is her iconic achievement of earning a ‘Perfect 10’ on the floor—something she accomplished nine times during her career. Her accolades include a Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award, two WCGA Scholastic All-American recognitions, and being named a Big Ten Gymnast to Watch on two occasions.
