Tensions remain high, especially after the deaths of Pretti and another citizen, Renee Nicole Good, also killed by federal agents. In response to these incidents, state officials and some congressional members have called for increased oversight of DHS activities.
Sen. Rand Paul has gone further, demanding independent investigations into these shootings. He argues that local police typically put officers involved in fatal incidents on leave until investigations conclude, calling for similar measures for federal agents.
