How a Journalist and Barrio Alegría Partner with the City of Reading to Transform the Local Environment

Every day, nature sends us messages. Sometimes it’s a gentle breeze, and other times, it’s a fierce storm. Many of us remember the devastation of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2017. More recently, wildfires in California have reminded us of the power of nature.

Most of these events are linked to climate change. While some changes happen naturally, human actions, like pollution, play a big role in making things worse.

Hi, I’m Luisa Corporan. I’m from the Dominican Republic and work in communications. Right now, I’m teaming up with Barrio Alegría, the City of Reading Public Works, and the Environmental Advisory Council. Our goal is to inspire our community to take action against pollution and misuse of natural resources.

With my background in journalism, I aim to share stories about the importance of caring for our environment. Together, we can come up with new strategies to combat climate change.

I’ll also be involved in various community activities, sharing information about city resources that can help us build a better future for ourselves and the next generations.

I want to hear from you, too! I’m eager to learn about your concerns and ideas. So, if I come knocking on your door, it’s just me wanting to chat about what matters to you.

If you have suggestions on how we can reduce pollution and better use our resources, feel free to send me an email at luisa@barrioalegria.org. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
