How AI Innovation Fuels Grassroots Climate Action: Discover Lenovo’s Game-Changing Solutions

This World Environment Day, we’re highlighting real change. Around the globe, innovators are tackling the climate crisis with creative solutions and local insights. They’re not alone in this journey.

Tech To The Rescue, a nonprofit that pairs tech companies with organizations addressing big challenges, is leading the AI for Changemakers Accelerator Program. With support from Lenovo, this initiative focuses on using AI to help nonprofits in the climate and education sectors.

Lenovo is not just a sponsor; they provide the tools and technology necessary for these organizations to transform ideas into impactful AI solutions. Jacek Siadkowski, CEO of Tech To The Rescue, emphasizes the urgency: “Every tech company has the power to change lives now. AI for good should be a reality, not just a promise.”

Today, let’s shine a light on five inspiring organizations that Lenovo supports, which are already leveraging AI to make a difference in the fight against climate change.

1. Justdiggit: Reviving Lost Lands in Africa

Justdiggit has already revitalized over 60,000 hectares of degraded land in East Africa. Their use of AI helps create tailored recommendations for farmers and monitor land improvements through satellites.

Carl Lens, the head of digital regreening at Justdiggit, shares, “AI can empower farmers and help cool the planet. Lenovo gave us the boost we needed to test these possibilities effectively.”

2. Reap Benefit: Youth Empowerment in India

Reap Benefit is all about inspiring young people in India to tackle civic and environmental issues. With over 121,000 participants contributing to data collection, they’re developing an AI-driven virtual mentor that adjusts to different learning styles.

Gauthamraj Elango, a tech leader at Reap Benefit, states, “Joining Lenovo’s Lab enables us to use AI meaningfully at the grassroots level.”

3. Reboot the Future: Shaping Climate Education

Reboot the Future connects 19,000 teachers in the UK to promote climate education. Their mission centers on nurturing environmentally aware leaders through AI that caters to the specific needs of classrooms.

Bruna Bertuzzi, their head of digital transformation, notes, “With Lenovo, we can create tools that inspire action and foster a compassionate approach to the environment.”

4. Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR): Farming Resilience in India

WOTR enhances water security and agricultural sustainability in Indian villages. They’re now using AI for real-time pest forecasts and climate-smart advice to help farmers adapt to changing conditions.

Ajay Shelke from WOTR explains, “Engaging with Lenovo enables us to enhance rural livelihoods and scale our impact effectively.”

5. WeRobotics: The Power of Drones for Local Solutions

WeRobotics empowers local experts with drones and AI to solve agricultural and conservation challenges. Their “Flying Labs” are making a difference in places like Uganda and Senegal.

Diego Paolo Ferruzzo Correa from WeRobotics says, “Being part of the Lenovo Lab helps us improve our technology for positive social and environmental change.”

These organizations are not just sharing ideas; they are actively building and implementing solutions. From repairing damaged landscapes to fostering climate-conscious schools, they prove that AI can be a powerful ally for both people and the planet.

This World Environment Day, we celebrate the tangible progress these changemakers are making. Their efforts show that a better future for our planet is possible when technology, cooperation, and community come together.
