EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan – Inspired by a mix of cultures, EV Loves NYC is dedicated to addressing food insecurity in New York City. From mouthwatering burgers to West African dishes, they serve up a variety of meals that bring the community together.

Diamy Bah, the operations manager, expresses pride in her work. “At the end of the day, I feel accomplished because I’m helping people,” she shares. For many, EV Loves NYC is more than a meal; it’s a sense of belonging.

This nonprofit operates two key programs. On Sundays, they transform the Lower East Side Girls Club into a bustling kitchen, serving between 2,000 and 2,500 meals. From Monday to Friday, they run Cafewal, a program that trains community members in culinary skills – preparing them for jobs in restaurants and beyond.

Ann Shields, the communications director, sees New York as a haven for many. “This city was a sanctuary for me. It should be welcoming for everyone,” she says. EV Loves NYC fosters that welcoming spirit. Since its launch in 2020, the organization has built a close community, welcoming both newcomers and regulars alike.

In 2025 alone, EV Loves NYC served over 150,000 healthy meals to those in need. Overall, they have provided 675,000 hot meals and distributed over nine million pounds of groceries since their founding. This impactful work highlights the importance of community support in fighting food insecurity.

According to a recent report by Feeding America, around 34 million Americans experience food insecurity, including 9 million children. This situation emphasizes organizations like EV Loves NYC that step up to meet local needs. Their dedication not only fills plates but also fosters unity and hope in the heart of the city.
