How Autodesk is Pioneering Sustainable Technologies for a Greener Future

The first focus area is operations. Autodesk is committed to being responsible with its resources. The goal? A 50% cut in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by FY2031, using FY2020 as a baseline. They’re also aiming for a minimum 55% reduction in Scope 3 emissions per dollar of gross profit by FY2031, again using FY2020 as a starting point. Autodesk has already achieved 100% renewable energy for its facilities, cloud services, and remote work by FY2021. Plus, they offset the remaining carbon emissions for all scopes starting in FY2021.

When it comes to customers, Autodesk is focused on providing valuable tools. They state that their industry cloud platforms help customers connect data across various teams and workflows. This lets clients make more informed decisions during their design and production processes, ultimately leading to better sustainability outcomes.

Joe Speicher, Autodesk’s Chief Sustainability Officer, shares, “We’re shifting to be more of a platform company.” He explains that projects like Tandem are designed to be open and easy to use, allowing other building system companies to link their software and monitor building performance in real-time, all while staying true to the original design.

The third area highlights Autodesk’s commitment to supporting the larger ecosystem. This involves work in policy and research.

“Our philanthropy focuses on funding technologies crucial for decarbonization,” Joe states. “For instance, we invest in carbon removal efforts because we believe lowering costs will encourage wider participation in this market. We support carbon removal companies and also engage in carbon removal offtake.”
