Balatro is a captivating game that pulls you into its poker-like world. Developed by a mysterious indie team called LocalThunk, it has gained massive popularity, selling over five million copies and earning more than $4.5 million on mobile platforms alone. This game has received numerous Game of the Year nominations and has a passionate fanbase that is hard to match. Despite this newfound fame and wealth, the creator of Balatro remains grounded.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, the reclusive developer shared some personal insights. He was able to quit his day job in IT and buy a house for himself and his partner. Yet, he maintains a steady routine. “It’s stressful but fulfilling,” he mentioned, “being able to do what I love every day. We lived modestly before, so our lifestyle hasn’t changed much. I travel a bit more to see friends, but I’m being responsible with my time and money.”

Looking ahead, LocalThunk is working on a significant update, Balatro 1.1, but the developer is keeping details under wraps. He doesn’t have any immediate plans for new games, focusing instead on improving this life-changing title. He hopes to give back to the community that made Balatro a success.
