Many people believe that the money spent by President Joe Biden on various ‘woke’ initiatives could have been better used to improve our nation’s schools. The focus should be on making education more effective and preparing students for the real world.
During Biden’s presidency, student achievement has declined significantly. A recent report by the National Center for Education Statistics showed a drop in math scores from 2019 to 2023. Fourth graders lost 18 points, while eighth graders saw a decline of 27 points. This trend aligns with findings from NWEA, which noted a widening gap in test scores, indicating that students may need an additional four to five months of learning to catch up.
A considerable amount of funding has shifted towards diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. From 2021, over $1 billion was allocated for these programs. Almost half of this funding was used for race-based recruiting and training. Some school districts received substantial amounts, such as $21.5 million for Montgomery County Schools in North Carolina, while others received less.
This focus on DEI priorities has distracted from the urgent need to enhance academic performance. McMahon is proposed as a strong candidate to lead the Department of Education. She has a proven track record, having successfully transformed World Wrestling Entertainment into a global powerhouse. As the CEO and president of WWE, she grew the company from worth nearly $1 million in 1982 to a billion-dollar empire. Her leadership also shone during her tenure as head of the Small Business Administration, where she played a vital role in job creation and economic growth.
McMahon is seen as capable of bringing the same success to education. Under her leadership, the Department of Education could shift its focus back to measurable academic improvements rather than controversial social policies. Many hope she can help rebuild an education system that feels like it has been neglected in recent years. The need to prioritize student learning and academic achievement has never been greater.
In summary, with the right leadership, there is hope for a more effective educational system that truly prepares students for their futures.
