In the first half, Purdue showed resilience, collecting 10 offensive rebounds and trading three-pointers to lead 43-41 at halftime. Kaufman-Renn stood out with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
Smith, who made five three-pointers, played a vital role in maintaining pressure, especially in the game’s closing moments. Even with three fouls early in the second half, he told Painter he wanted to stay on the court, and the coach trusted him.
