All successful businesses start with a problem. For DASH Water, that issue was food waste. This innovation has made it one of the fastest-growing drink brands in the UK.
In the UK, about 30% of fruits and vegetables end up in the trash. Co-founders Alex Wright and Jack Scott, both from farming backgrounds, realized they could make a difference. They decided to use “wonky” produce—fruits and veggies that are bent, crushed, or otherwise imperfect. This approach transforms food that would have been discarded into tasty, sugar-free soft drinks.
“Our focus is on taste, not appearance,” Alex explains. By embracing produce that others reject, DASH Water creates delicious drinks that raise awareness about food waste. They prove that healthy can be exciting.
DASH Water started in 2017, boosted by a loan from Virgin StartUp. Like many entrepreneurs, Alex and Jack found guidance and community support there. This backing allowed them to refine their product and keep their mission at the core of their business.
Thanks to this dedication, DASH is thriving. In 2023, the company expects to earn £42 million, contributing significantly to the soft drink market’s growth. It’s impressive that DASH is now available in over 10,000 stores, from Tesco to Sainsbury’s, and even in restaurants like Franco Manca. This summer, they sold an astonishing 4.9 million cans in just one month.
The brand also prioritizes sustainability. They support local farmers, reduce plastic use, and operate as a carbon-neutral company. Their commitment earned them B Corp certification, a mark of businesses that balance profits with social responsibility.
DASH Water embodies the idea that doing good can go hand in hand with success. They’ve shown that with a values-driven model, it’s possible to compete against larger companies and win.
As the fight against food waste continues, businesses like DASH show that innovation and purpose can lead to remarkable results.
