At the recent Lokosthav-25 festival in Goa, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat emphasized that India’s diverse cultures have been the glue keeping the nation united since its independence in 1947. Surprisingly, some world leaders had predicted that India might break apart due to its various languages and cultures. Instead, Kamat pointed out, while other nations faced divisions, India remained intact and strong.
Kamat noted that the variety of states and cultures is actually a symbol of unity. He said events like Lokosthav highlight this spirit, celebrating folk arts that bring people together.
During the festival, Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar was awarded the Human Excellence Award by Madhu Krishan, the Vice-Chancellor of The American University Global Peace in the USA. A book honoring Birsa Munda, a key figure in India’s tribal history, was also launched to mark his 150th birth anniversary.
Tawadkar welcomed representatives from several states, including Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala, expressing hope that they would share Goa’s rich culture with their regions.
Events like Lokosthav not only promote unity but also showcase India’s vibrant traditions. Recent surveys show that such cultural gatherings are popular, with 65% of respondents believing they strengthen social bonds across different communities.
