How GameAbove is Transforming Eastern Michigan University into a Cybersecurity Leader

Over 700 students have successfully completed EMU’s cybersecurity program, boasting nearly 100% job placement rates.

YPSILANTI, Mich., March 6, 2025 — Cybercrime continues to be a serious issue. Its costs exceed $10 trillion worldwide each year, impacting over 400 million people in the U.S. alone. This alarming rise highlights the urgent need for skilled cybersecurity professionals.

To address this issue, GameAbove made a generous $1.6 million donation to support Eastern Michigan University’s (EMU) cybersecurity program in 2023. This funding will help train students to combat cyber threats effectively, ensuring they are well-prepared for this critical field.

Keith J. Stone, chairman and founder of GameAbove, expressed, “Our commitment to EMU’s Cybersecurity program reflects our recognition of the threats we face today. We want to help prepare young people to tackle these challenges.”

Since its launch in 2005, EMU has been a leader in cybersecurity education. Nearly 700 graduates have entered the workforce, landing jobs at top companies like Google, Amazon, and Cisco. EMU’s online cybersecurity master’s program has also been ranked among the top affordable programs for 2025 by Cybersecurity Guide.

Dean Mohamad Qatu of EMU’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology stated, “The need for cybersecurity experts is on the rise. With GameAbove’s support, we have improved our program, added resources, and provided advanced technology and training to our students. Our cybersecurity program is now among the best globally, and our graduates play a vital role in enhancing security efforts.”

EMU’s GameAbove College offers a wide range of cybersecurity programs, including undergraduate, graduate, and even a Ph.D. concentration. As cyber threats become more sophisticated, organizations everywhere are challenged to protect sensitive data and critical systems.

GameAbove has long valued the significance of cybersecurity at EMU, with its reputation for excellence in various disciplines such as education and aviation growing over the years. Stone remarked, “Our engineering and technology programs are gaining national attention.”
