How I Successfully Mounted My LG C5 OLED TV on the Wall Without Studs: My Ultimate Guide!

When you buy a new TV, figuring out where to place it can be a challenge. I recently faced this issue after getting my dream TV: a 65-inch LG C5 OLED from Costco. While you can find cheaper 4K TVs, they tend to be bulkier, and I didn’t want to deal with that hassle.

What attracted me to the LG C5 was its stunning colors and impressive detail, plus it weighs just 36.6 pounds. My previous TV, a TCL 6-Series, weighed significantly more, making installation a burden.

Now, my home is nearly 100 years old, and while I’ve upgraded many areas, one central wall is a bit problematic. Built long before construction guidelines existed, its studs—wood supports inside the wall—are oriented incorrectly. Most studs should be placed with the narrow side facing out for added strength. However, these are positioned with the wide side out, making it tough to use standard wall mounts for my TV.

I thought about other options, like hanging the TV without relying on those studs. My search led me to a clever product called Hang Smart, which promises easy installation and can support up to 150 pounds—all while using just a few simple screws.

Once I got both the TV and the Hang Smart mounting system, I measured and decided where to hang the TV. Experts typically recommend mounting a TV about 25 inches off the ground. However, in my initial attempts, I found this height seemed too low. I didn’t want anyone craning their necks to watch either, so I did some research on the optimal height for a 65-inch screen. It’s best to have the center of the TV at eye level for a comfortable viewing experience.

The Hang Smart system comes with a variety of components to suit different TV models. I attached two hooks to the back of my LG TV. The unique mounting system involves four holes set at 45-degree angles, where nails secure the mounts into the wall. This design distributes the weight evenly, making it safer to use.

With the nails in place, I hung the TV carefully. It felt great to see it mounted perfectly. I noticed it slightly tilted forward but found that didn’t affect my viewing experience—if anything, it seemed to angle just right towards our new sectional sofa.

After using the Hang Smart system, I can confidently say it’s a brilliant option for mounting TVs, especially in tricky spaces. It creates fewer holes in the walls and requires less heavy lifting. Overall, it’s an efficient and smart solution that balances ease of installation with a sleek design.
